The Tragedy:
Sergeant Joshua Caudell’s life was tragically ended while providing assistance to the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office during a canine operation in Maumelle, Arkansas. Deputies had been dispatched to a residence to perform a welfare check on a woman who had failed to report to work. As the home turned out to be vacant, the sheriff’s office sought support from the Department of Corrections, and Sergeant Caudell responded with his skilled canine companion to conduct the track.
The trail led them to a trailer and as they approached a man concealed underneath unleashed a hail of gunfire upon them. This resulted in the fatal shooting of Sergeant Caudell. The perpetrator managed to flee the scene but was apprehended the next day. The missing woman was later found safe.
Sergeant Caudell had devoted nine years of unwavering service to the Arkansas department of Corrections. He leaves behind his wife and three children.

The Service:
A memorial service was held for Sergeant Caudell at family Church in White Hall the Saturday following his death.
Part of a statement released by Caudell’s family said, “His family was the light and focus of his life. We will always be grateful that although his life was cut short, he left his family with remarkable memories filled with laughter and love. His presence will forever be felt wherever his wife and children go.”

The Justice:
The perpetrator, Demark Jordan, was captured the day after shooting Sergeant Caudell and faces multiple charges included one count of capital murder and two counts of criminal attempt of capital murder. Jordan is currently being held in the Pulaski County Regional Detention Facility without bond while he awaits trial.
