The Tragedy:
Investigator Myiesha Stewart tragically lost her life during a shootout on October 11, 2022. Stewart was responding to a call saying a suspect had shot his girlfriend and another male. Both the suspect and those shot were airlifted to a hospital in Jackson. Few other details have been released to the public.
Stewart is survived by her 3-year-old son, parents and other family members.

The Service:
Investigator Stewart was honored at the Washington County Convention Center where hundreds of law enforcement officers and community members joined together to honor her sacrifice.
Greenville Mayor Errick Simmons spoke highly of Stewart during her memorial, “In her final act, she leaves a legacy of duty, honor, strength, courage and service. An officer who, not so long ago, left the academy and moved quickly up the ranks to become an investigator with the Greenville Police Department. To know Investigator Stewart was to respect her, respect her work and to lover her as a person.”
Stewart’s family has been awarded a medal of honor by the American Police Hall of Fame and Museum in January of 2023.

The Justice:
The suspect who killed Investigator Stewart was identified as 29-year-old Kamarcus Charles who has been charged with capital murder. Information about where Charles is being held has not released, but it was announced that there would be no bail set for the man. Currently, no other information has been released regarding the progress with trial.
