The Tragedy:
Police Officer Branden Estorffe and Sergeant Steven Robin lost their lives early December 14, while conducting a welfare check on a woman and child inside a parked vehicle at a Motel 6. After conversing with the woman for around thirty minutes, they decided to involve child protective services. Suddenly, the woman opened fire on the two resulting in both being fatally wounded. Despite being injured, Officer Estorffe managed to return fire and brought down their assailant.

The Service:
Both Officer Estorffe and Sergeant Robin were honored in a joint funeral at Bay St. Louis Community Center and then escorted by a law enforcement procession the Gardens of Memory Cemetery.
Father Jacob Matthew began the service and although he addressed the difficult questions of why this tragedy took place, he also found a more positive side. “We are all here to something special in our lives and after listening to stories of Steven and Branden, I think they lived that out.”
State Representative Brent Anderson eulogized Officer Estorffe and reminisced about his nephew’s passion for law enforcement as well as the close relationship Estorffe had with his father. “His biggest thing was to tell his dad he loved him. He never missed that opportunity to tell his dad those words.”

The Justice:
The woman involved in this tragedy was 43-year-old Amy Brogdon Anderson. She had checked into the motel then an hour later asked the front desk to call 911 because she thought she was being followed. When Estorffe walked away to call child protective services, he heard a commotion and then Sergeant Robin was shot. Officer Estorffe and Anderson fired fatal shots at each other simultaneously. An investigation is taking place in attempts to understand what led to Anderson’s mental break.
